{"id":577,"date":"2026-08-03T17:09:26","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T17:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/longdistancemoversusas.com\/?p=577"},"modified":"2026-08-03T17:09:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T17:09:26","slug":"ex-olympian-weighs-all-remedies-after-doj-drops-reflecting-pool-case-lawyer-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/longdistancemoversusas.com\/?p=577","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Olympian weighs \u2018all remedies\u2019 after DOJ drops Reflecting Pool case, lawyer says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A member of David Hearn\u2019s legal team told MS NOW that his client is considering \u201call remedies,\u201d including possible lawsuits, after the Justice Department moved to dismiss charges against the former Team USA Olympic canoeist who was accused of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/longdistancemoversusas.com\/?p=575\">Deadline: Legal Blog<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, federal prosecutors admitted they could not attribute the damage to the pool to Hearn, saying the peeling liner was likely caused instead by a \u201cbotched installation.\u201d Previously, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro had said the former Olympian was seen \u201cforcefully and violently pulling up and removing the bottom liner\u201d of the pool.<\/p>\n<p>Norm Eisen, one of Hearn\u2019s lawyers, joined \u201cThe Weekend\u201d on Sunday to react to the government\u2019s dismissal and to discuss possible next steps in challenging what he called an \u201cabuse\u201d of government power.<\/p>\n<p>Eisen told MS NOW the charges should never have been brought against his client.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate offering to dismiss the case, but I do not accept what is in the government\u2019s motion to dismiss, because they knew or should have known all along this was not a righteous case,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day after he was arraigned, after he pled not guilty on July 10, we showed before-and-after photographs that demonstrate that he did not harm the Reflecting Pool,\u201d Eisen explained. \u201cIt was the same before he put his hand in the water and after.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the decision by the DOJ to drop the case, President Donald Trump posted on social media on Saturday to push conspiracy theories about the damage.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/longdistancemoversusas.com\/?p=573\">A brutal new poll for Trump shows why Democrats must run against his corruption<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM,\u201d he wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>MS NOW asked Eisen whether Hearn was considering a lawsuit over any reputational damage caused by the government\u2019s case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine what it feels like: You watch TV, and you have the president or other administration officials saying you could go to jail for 10 years,\u201d Eisen said.<\/p>\n<p>Eisen told \u201cThe Weekend\u201d that the legal team is focused on \u201cfinishing the job of getting this bogus, baseless, abusive case thrown out,\u201d but he said they are talking about next steps, adding that \u201call remedies are being considered.
