The United States military launched retaliatory strikes against Iran on Wednesday night in response to Iranian attacks a day earlier, U.S. Central Command announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cU.S. forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8 p.m. ET today,\u201d CENTCOM said in a\u00a0post\u00a0on X. \u201cThe strikes are a powerful response to yesterday\u2019s attempted Iranian attacks on U.S. forces based in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n

The military did not immediately identify the targets or provide additional details on the operation.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump signaled earlier Wednesday that military action was imminent, telling reporters that Iran should expect a forceful response.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to be hitting them very hard because it\u2019s our turn to hit them,\u201d Trump said in the Oval Office. \u201cThey know it\u2019s coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to CENTCOM, Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles Tuesday in what the U.S. described as an attempted \u201csurprise attack.\u201d All of the missiles were intercepted, and no casualties were immediately reported.<\/p>\n

After the attempted IRGC missile attack Tuesday night, U.S. and Saudi forces launched precision airstrikes against logistics and weapons sites used by the Iran-backed\u00a0Popular Mobilization Forces in eastern Iraq. <\/p>\n

U.S. officials alleged the targeted sites had been used to support attacks on American forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. CENTCOM said the strikes were a response to more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks over the previous 72 hours, all of which they said failed to hit U.S. forces.<\/p>\n

The latest military action marks another escalation in the monthslong confrontation between Washington and Tehran.\u00a0\u00a0Prior to the fresh round of skirmishing, both countries had\u00a0temporarily halted attacks\u00a0as mediators sought to bring both sides back to the negotiating table and revive the fragile ceasefire.<\/p>\n
