Katy Perry lambasted the Trump administration over the weekend for using her song \u201cFirework\u201d in one of its social media videos about U.S airstrikes on Iran.<\/p>\n

The pop star said she was \u201cdeeply appalled and angry\u201d over the use of her song in a White House TikTok video featuring bombs exploding set to Perry\u2019s 2010 hit \u2014 specifically featuring her lyrics \u201cboom, boom, boom.\u201d A caption on the video, which has more than 6 million views, reads: \u201cIran has been warned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it. I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments,\u201d Perry wrote in an X post on Saturday. \u201cTo see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponized to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for. My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.\u201d<\/p>\n

White House aide Kaelan Dorr responded to Perry, saying, \u201cThis you?\u201d He posted Perry\u2019s own military-themed music video of her song \u201cPart of Me,\u201d in which she\u2019s dressed in combat uniform.<\/p>\n

Perry, who is in a romantic relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, is among many other prominent artists who have rebuked the Trump administration for using their music in videos on official accounts.<\/p>\n

Kesha publicly admonished President Donald Trump\u2019s administration in March after the official White House TikTok account used her song \u201cBlow\u201d in another video about military action. \u201cStop using my music, perverts,\u201d she said on X.<\/p>\n

The Filipino American pop star Olivia Rodrigo expressed outrage at the Trump administration after it used her song \u201cAll-American Bitch\u201d last fall in a video threatening deportations. She responded to the Department of Homeland Security at the time, saying, \u201cDon\u2019t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

While the video is still visible, Rodrigo\u2019s music has been removed.<\/p>\n

And last December, Sabrina Carpenter condemned the administration for using her song \u201cJuno\u201d in a video about immigration arrests, which she called \u201cevil and disgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda,\u201d the singer wrote at the time.<\/p>\n

Ariana Grande\u00a0also posted on her Instagram story last September criticizing the administration over its\u00a0immigration policy, anti-LGBTQ+ messaging and alleged censorship. In response, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai told her, \u201cSave your tears,\u201d a reference to one of her songs. Last month, after the White House used her song \u201cBye\u201d in an anti-immigration video on TikTok, she commented, \u201cPlease do not ever use my music \u2060in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has repeatedly lashed out at\u00a0Taylor Swift. The White House poked fun at the mega star earlier this month when shemarried Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. Its official X account posted photo-shopped images of the venue\u2019s billboards blaring, \u201cTRUMP IS YOUR PRESIDENT.\u201d After she endorsed his opponent, Kamala Harris, in the 2024 election, Trump wrote, \u201cI HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0Trump went after Bruce Springsteen\u00a0for insulting the president at a concert in Manchester, England, where the Boss called the administration \u201ccorrupt, incompetent and treasonous.\u201d Trump called the Grammy-award winning artist \u201chighly overrated,\u201d writing in part, \u201cNever liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he\u2019s not a talented guy.\u201d<\/p>\n
